Just wondering how people are getting on with ordering bits and pieces online at the moment.
I've been putting off some orders on the assumption that stuff simply isn't moving, and I've been caught out with more than one supplier acting as if things are in stock, taking your order/money, and then giving you all sorts of excuses like 'it's on back order from our warehouse' etc etc, and refusing to refund. Both for local suppliers and international.
So yeah, if things are moving for you (or not), let us know.
Note, before the thread even starts, lest it get derailed: THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR YOU TO AIR YOUR DIRTY LAUNDRY OR GRIEVENCES. A simple mention of the supplier and the issue you've had is all that is required, so other forum members don't get bitten. I'll be moderating this one reasonably closely.

I will start. Tried to order some John Guest fittings from TruWater back in July. Money taken, item is out of stock, but no refund (yet) because they insist it's coming from their warehouse. Has been escalated to Fair Trading.

I'm a bit spoiled not having to worry about delivery - kegland is within my 5km and still operating for locker pick up.
But for getting things delivered, not really having any issues. I ordered some bottle wax from Grapeworks. They posted express post and it arrived within a few days.10/10 super helpful company.

I've been placing orders for coffee, brewing bits and other ebay things from VIC to SEQLD 6 or 7 times since April. One KL order took 9 business days to arrive but nothing else has taken more than a week that I recall.

I haven't needed to purchase anything lately I did a bulk buy months ago while I could before Vics increasing lockdowns. Even then out of stock items were increasing. A mate has purchased recently (from KK) Starting up brewer getting guten and kegerator and lots of things needed to get started. He's done ok so far but cant get 2nd hand cornies and I'll learn soon what else he couldn't get since I'll be a tutor of sorts while learning the guten myself. There are broken supply chains on countless things here in Vic understandably but not good to here the same in Queensland too. Its disappointing to here them locking up your money though that stinks. I have to make a special request with active retailers to make a pre payed back order their not very comfortable about that. Many items are found out of stock after ordered that's frustrating but everything gets refunded as far as I know. Its nice too see a trend of most Victorians trying their best with this shared pain. I'd imaging theirs as much processing in refunding as in distributing these days.

I've made a number of online orders during this speriod. A couple largish cartons of books from the States got here within 3 weeks, yet a small parcel of coffee beans from same country took damn near 3 monthgs to get here. Ordered some squid jigs from Germany, they are holding them for me as registered packages can only be sent up to 20mm thickness. A number of orders here in Oz....BeerBelly - good service, arrived quickly; KL - arrived quickly once sent, bit of delay twixt ordering and packaged/sent; Wildflower - quick service and delivery; Hawker - quick service and delivery; Brewman - quality service and quick delivery; Clever Brewing - quality service and quick delivery Love our sponsors. Wildfire Smokers - quality service, quick delivery of a flaming big heavy box t'were sent from SA via Melb.
Overall, I haven't been too dismayed at all by my postage experiences.

I was thinking mostly beer kit, but for the record, have been getting regular deliveries of coffee from Maclean NSW sent up, very fast. Also a few boxes of wine from various regional parts of NSW and VIC. A few beer deliveries from Purvis, Currumbin and BrewDog have also been fast.
Generally, anything via Fastway/Aramex has been great. Aus Post.... not so much (but OK).
I'm particularly interested if anyone has had any success with Aliexprss sort of places. I have a few bits I need to replace, particularly PiD's, and the ones I'm looking for do not appear to have any australian stock.

Hi davidm and all,
A big personal positive from the virus, I've taken the opportunity to get back into brewing after a 13 year break. Initial bulk (panic) purchase from the LHB shop was great. But, of course, they didn't stock everything. Then I ordered diverse ingredients and many, many bits and pieces of small kit over seven orders from five different online suppliers. They have all be great, excellent service, quick replies and the bending of standard practices to help out. Something arrived broken and I was quickly sent a replacement part, which was a free upgrade on the original part. Rather than being "money grabbing" one supplier refused to take my money upfront when I tried to pre-purchase items which kept going "out of stock". A long term view and a focus on service and keeping customers happy seems to be prevailing attitude, despite the Home Brew industry going "gangbusters" due to the pandemic.
From my experience, I'm guessing you were just unlucky.
Cheers! Rob

davidm haven't bought from aliX but have bought from a few stainless shops on ebay - last package from China took 9 weeks, which isn't far off what they were last year... have had long delays from the US though (12 weeks for fedex, including a month sitting at LAX)

Male clydesdales have one - just need to be sufficiently hydrated
Edit to correct a forum gremlin: The words above definitely not mine.
My original post in this spot was about delays in getting tractor parts from Sth Korea ATM, and without a functioning tractor, how to hook up a 400 litre spray tank to Missy the horse.

Time to start figuring out how to attach a 400 litre sprayer to a horse! I think you'll find that as always the answer is - duct tape.

I'm particularly interested if anyone has had any success with Aliexprss sort of places. I'm building prototypes of a couple of gas management devices ATM using bits from AlieX and Banggood and so far delivery times have been reasonable, about 3 - 4 weeks ex China.
Also, and sorry to brag (not really or I wouldn't do it), I finally scored an Anton Paar densitometer on Ebay on Thursday. Arrived from Thailand today, so 5 days including the weekend.

I had a similar expedience with Truwater. I ordered a filter cartridge and received all the excuses but no filter. In the end I made a claim through my bank on credit card.
Ive ordered a few little nothing's via aliexpress. Most of it is incredibly slow, but it all turns up.

Some of the other responses here suggest stuff from china is still getting here, so maybe I'll take the plunge on a few PID's and sees how I goes.

Pandemic aside, one of the biggest problems from what I understand is the warfies in dispute which has resulted in an 80K backlog of shipping containers across the country. Said to compound about 1K of containers per day.
In regard to deliveries, I’ve had no issue getting brewing and non brewing things from Vic, SA or Qld to NSW, especially Newera who have been great. Maybe a couple of days delay here or there but if that’s the worst I’ll be happy to take it.

Six weeks ago, I needed parts which have to come from Korea, so ordered them through the Australian dealer who demanded money-up-front, so I couldn't subsequently change my mind and leave them holding the baby as it were. Fair enough - happy with that.
Well, regular contact with the dealer indicated they had no word from Korea whether, or even if, these parts would ever be on their way. Last week I managed to source the parts in the US, and they're on their way to me ATM, so I asked the Aust dealer to cancel my order from Korea, since they hadn't even been dispatched. (The factory always lets them know prior to dispatch apparently)
Dealer says "Sorry - cannot cancel the order"!
What's my best recourse here? We're talking $200.

Of course they can cancel, it's all BS. Did you pay via credit/debit card? If so, dispute the transaction via your bank. Mine couldn't have been more helpful (ANZ). Simple online form, they called to confirm a few details, they credit the amount immediately and then it's a 30 day timeline for the merchant to demonstrate why it shouldn't be refunded. Addressing your other point, I get that businesses are suffering at the moment, and the risk is often on them in this situation. But some have been great and really upfront and honest, and others like this (and my example) have been a bit dodgy / deceptive. It's one thing to take money up front, but it's another to not refund when it's clear the thing isn't coming.

Got some stuff from Vic (Kegland/Cheeky Peak) delivered to Canberra recently, all was as you'd expect pre-CV19, no delays.

I will start. Tried to order some John Guest fittings from TruWater back in July. Money taken, item is out of stock, but no refund (yet) because they insist it's coming from their warehouse. Has been escalated to Fair Trading. Me to, for an under sink water filter. 1 x 3/8 x 7/16 adapter. Fcuking useless they were at every level. Following a string of ignored e mails and online 'help', problem rectified with a clearly worded and stern phone conversation. I literally had a clutch kit for my Ducati shipped from Pennsylvania in half the time it took to get that piss-ant fitting. Other than that, probably ordered over a dozen bits and bobs from all over in the last couple of months without much grief. Shout out to BIKE PART OUT at Dubbo, broke shit Saturday, ordered new shit Sunday, shit arrives Tuesday. Gotta be happy with that.
